You have every reason to make your own coffee grounds. It is not difficult and fresh green coffee beans can be found all over the internet for convenience too. The only thing left to do before you begin is to learn how to roast green coffee beans yourself.

You do not need special equipment to roast them at home. All you will need is a baking sheet and an oven heated up to about 220-250 degrees. You should try and have another baking pan ready for the hot beans too cool off in.

Use a baking pan that has small holes placed in the bottom of it. You can use a pizza pan because they usually have holes in the bottoms and can be found at any kitchen store. You can also drill the holes in your own baking pan yourself. The holes will give good airflow around the beans giving a more even roast.

Turn on the oven. It needs to be set at 220-250 degrees. Pour the soon to be java onto the baking pan making sure there is only one layer of them. It will expand quite a bit while roasting, and it is important that they do not get on top of each other. Leave them in for 9-15 minutes.

They will beginning popping sort of like popcorn. They wont explode like popcorn but they will definitely crack and pop a bit. You will want to listen for this to happen. This will happen twice during this process.

The second time that they crack will likely happen around one to four minute from the time the first crack happened. If the temp isn't high enough the second set of cracks may not happen. The amount of heat that builds up inside of the beans determines if they will crack. The second crack is not as easy to see or hear. By the time the second crack happens, the coffee beans will have a beautiful dark color to them. You will want to pull them from the oven once the second crack has occurred because a burnt taste will start to develop if not. There are people that like to pull theirs from the oven after the first crack has happened.

Roasting creates smoke if done inside. Be sure to open a window or two before you open up the oven door. Do this to clear out any smoke that comes out of the oven.

You need to cool the beans after they are taken out of the oven. If not, you could get severely burned by the oil inside. You should give them an hour or so after you remove them from the oven.

The coffee should now have a dark chocolaty color. You will also notice that there is left over chaff from the them. The chaff is usually removed from the already roasted stuff that you can buy at the store. However you do not need to actually remove the chaff from them. It tastes the same as the beans and can be put in the coffee grinder along with the rest.

The coffee will taste better after being allowed to set for 20-24 hours. All that is left to do is to enjoy it. You will be able to enjoy this delicious fresh java every day now that you know how to roast green coffee beans yourself.
